Long Street BLues Club

The Long Street Blues Club was born in May 2008 with a epic performance by local axe hero Innes Sibun. It has gradually developed over the last 2 years (now over 15 years!) to a point where we feel we have a thriving local blues club.

With the help of my brother Rick I started resurrecting live music events in Devizes Corn Exchange as part of my fundraising activites for the time I was Mayor of Devizes in 1995. It always had a glorious past in the 1960's and early 70's but fell out of favour. With the refurbishment of the building we decided to bring back live music to Devizes

Over a period of 5 years we put on many amazing and diverse shows from Hugh Cornwall to the Ozric Tentacles. The Hoax played some amazing gigs mainly after Christmas and Devizes was put back on the gig map. I still put on gigs for Devizes Festival and Carnival but we took a break from providing year round live music. In 2008 we were persuaded to come back into the promoting game and The Long Street Blues Club was born. We did not want to put on huge shows with huge expenditure but to create an intimate club where people can come along to watch quality acts at reasonable prices.

The main function room in The Conservative Club Devizes is the perfect venue for what we wanted to create. A room where every one can see and get close to the action, subsidised bar prices and a friendly atmosphere where people can have a great night out with friends. It has taken time to build up steam but we feel we are in a position for the club to really take off. From this October 2010 until May 2011 we are putting on at least one gig a month showcasing the best quality blues and blues rock music around. We hope you will support this venture. We are only interested in keeping music live our prime motivation.

Let us know your opinions and ideas and who we should be getting next to the club.

Warmest regards,

Ian and Rick Hopkins
